After 6500 miles of mostly trouble-free driving we got hit with the above issue overnight. We have been plugging into our WallBox 40A charger at home the entire 6 months we have owned our '23 GC Summit Reserve 4xe without an issue and have used other level 1/2 chargers without incident. After charging and unplugging last night, the service engine light came on. We didn't think anything of it, my wife drove around to run errands and returned to plug in to our WallBox and charge up for the next day. That is when the "Service Charging System" error came up. She unplugged and tried the included Jeep 120V charger and got the "Issue Detected Check External Charging Station" error. Changed to another 120V outlet and got the first error again. I have used our WallBox on the 40A setting for my EQS and Karma Revero without any issues and on the GC up until last night. We did have the 56A recall for the park assist module software update done last week so perhaps that had something to do with this failure although they are on different systems...or it is just coincidence.
Thanks to scouring this forum I had an idea of what was going on. I had ordered an OBD scanner to see if I could clear codes and reset it myself but my scanner won't arrive until tomorrow. We are lucky in that our local dealer is just around the corner and they are usually able to squeeze us in whenever. I tool the GC to them and they scanned the vehicle and found 3 DTCs. They were unable to clear the codes so went deeper and found a software update for the IDCM which would not flash. The IDCM then went off-line and would not return.
Long story short, we are in a loaner Cherokee while they open a case with Stellantis and I suspect we will end up with an IDCM replacement although that could take weeks. Our GC will start and presumably run on gas still but they were concerned it might brick itself while my wife was driving about and leave her stranded so we will take the craptastic loaner and keep our fingers crossed.
We were feeling so lucky to escape some of the problems we were reading about on here up until this one. It is like driving an iPad and my wife is non-technical and not impressed. We had traded her Wagoneer SIII in for this GC 4xe in the hopes of downsizing the ride and giving her an electric option. Once this is fixed I don't know if we will try to tough it out or if she is now scared enough to trade the GC and head back to petrol.
Just thought I would add my voice to the myriad similar discussions I have read on here and will update once we learn more from the dealer on Monday.
