Even as I write this, you can go onto Jeep.com and build a 22/23 GC 4Xe with the "Off-Road Group". The problem is when you search inventory there are none out there. Anywhere. When I started working with a dealer to find me one, any color, any options, they told me they weren't building them because of the "chip shortage". I asked what does the chip shortage have to do with all-terrain tires and skid plates? They explained that it had everything to do with the electronic limited-slip differential in the rear axle. (This is what differentiates the Quadra-Trac from the Quadra-Drive 4x4 systems). I told the dealer that what I wanted in my GC was the best 4x4 system they make and the "trail rated" capabilities Jeep is known for. They tried very hard to get me into the Trailhawk since it had the tires and the Qudra-Trac system and ski

d plates. I argued I wanted those on my Overland trim since their catalog said I could! I opted for the Overland by my own choice but am VERY DISAPOINTED Jeep would not even swap the tires on my Overland before I took delivery. I had to put my own all-terrain tires on at 75 miles because I just couldn't stand the look of the OEM LRR tires.

I got same run around. I now intend to get better tires, would like them on 18" wheels and skid plates.
But seems nobody yet has actually tried the 4xe Trailhawk skid plates on an Overland.
What tired did you get? Sounds like you stuck with the 20" rims? I need daily driver on pavement so may see if the Nitto Terra Grapplers are available for my stock (or 18" jeep) rims. I really liked how they handled on road but were more aggressive offroad.

I also was wondering if the skidplates that are standard on the Trailhawk, and supposedly optional on other trims, can be purchased separately. I am very concerned about damaging the "battery floor" if I bottom out. I would have preferred the 18" package the factory offered but had to settle for just swapping the tires on the stock 20" wheels for money reasons. I went with the OEM tire size and opted for a set of 265/50R-20 COOPER DISCOVERER RUGGED TREKs. As I'm sure you've noticed, there is absolutely no room between the tire and the upper control arm for any oversized tires.

Yeah I didn't expect oversized tires, have plenty of clearance for what I do. I'll look into those tires, how are they on pavement for road noise (something I'm a bit sensitive too and I think louder tires hurt gas mileage due to friction). I want to go with 18" for more flex in the tire for offroad (I don't need a cushier ride as the ride is very pleasant).

Dealer says they can order the Trailhawk skid plates for me but, since they are NOT listed from Jeep for my VIN# I have to pay up front and no returns. I haven't tried it yet, hoping someone else does first and says it works. :-|

These seem like a good set of tires from reviews and ratings:

ratings show better on this and road noise is 9 out of 10

Do you agree with other reviews that they are: Reasonably quiet on road and still sticky enough off-road?
I didn't find them very quiet but that wasn't what I was after. I found them very capable in deep snow and sand which were my objectives. I have subwoofers and amps to deal with any tire noise..Haha!

Although the website says the Off Road Group was/is available I don't think is was ever actually available when ordering except what comes standard on the Trailhawk. I think the website guy just moved everything over from the regular Grand Cherokee website....that's why the public thinks its available. The other thing about the 4Xe the axle ratio is 3:70...I believe the V6 and V8 are still either 3:09 and 3:45. Ever since Stellantis took over there has been a new way of thinking when it comes to options and how each trim level has those options available....I know they are using the chip shortage as an excuse but I don't believe that's always the real reason.

I suspect you are correct that not a single 4Xe was built with "trail rated" components except the Trailhawk and that they just copied and pasted the sales materials, including the owners manual and instructional videos, as I have found many inaccuracies in those as well.

Thank you Cummins0867. I will always listen to a guy on his 9th GC. Big JeepWave to you!..Lol

This screenshot of the website promotional material is definitely proof that they cloned previous material. I don't believe the Quadra-Drive II is available on any trim level and certainly not the Quadra-Trac SRT.

THis is off topic but why did they make the GC all time 4 wheel drive and the wrangler able to go in 2WD? Wouldn't the GC get better MPG if it could run in 2 WD

Stock tires are: 265/50R20 107T M+S (29”D X 10.5”W)
Both the NITTO RIDGE GRAPPLER and the BRIDGESTONEDUELER A/T REVO 3 show at about 30.5"
as is the COOPERDISCOVERER RUGGED TREK which you got.

Is there enough clearance for them? You said things are tight - so tight you can't go bigger than 30.5 but you can fit the 30.5" in there?

Does it actually end up giving another ½" of lift? Any issues with speedometer? Handling?

You might be doing it wrong...The rolling diameter, whether the 18" or the 20" wheel package, is the same and it is 30.5". You should be fine. Now different tires have a more "squarish" design but they are the same size - the Wranglers on the Trailhawk are certainly a little more rugged and aggressive but they are interchangeable on your sophisticated cars.

In addition to Nitto Terra Grappler G2 (I had them on my WK2) you should consider Toyo Open Country AT3 (I have them on my WK2). They are both fantastic.

Thats a cool calculator. Nice that speed differences just aren't there - though I currently have stock 20" tire that I measured at 29" not 30.5" - maybe tape measure not the best and I should look up specs on the stock tires. And if stock is 29" thats why I am concerned about 30.5" tires.

I'd still like to get 18" wheels for more sidewall which - right or wrong I feel gives a softer ride and a bit more grip on rocks when aired down - correct?

After discussing with off road people at work I've come down to these 2 leaning towards the TOYO. This (so far) is IF I stay with the stock 20" rims.
Nitto Terra Grappler G2 (which I have on my other SUV and love) are coming up as discontinued
  • COOPER DISCOVERER AT3 4S
  • TOYO Open Country A/T III TOYO OPEN COUNTRY A/T III
and leaning slightly towards the TOYO (not discontinued)
