So I have a portable radar detector from Escort that in my previous vehicle (FJ Cruiser) was attached via a suction cup at the lower part of the front window, and was connected via a Direct Wire Smart Cord, see picture below. The Smart Cord switch was installed into a “dead switch” location on the lower front dashboard. The power wire came up from inside the upper dashboard near the window and I could simply detach the wire from the detector when I wanted to remove the detector from the vehicle…very clean installation. On the 4xe Sahara, I am trying to figure out what to do. I don’t see any natural location for the Smart Cord Switch. How do you mount and install your detector? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have the trailer tow group with aux switches?
Yes, I do. I was thinking about wiring it into switch #4. But being a nube at this, I saw a post elsewhere suggesting that a direct wire into the detector should have a 3 amp fuse, but i also saw that switch #4 has a 15 amp fuse in the fuse box. Someone else advised me that it won’t matter. Any thoughts on that?
