My husband was driving down the interstate and his 2024 jeep 4xe shut off! Thank god he is alright and did not crazy driving at 80 mph. Has this happened to anyone? Who do we report this too because this is a major safety issue and flaw in their vehicle.

Whenever I am stopped at a red light, stop sign, or just in traffic, the whole car turns off (the little message on how to start car- Press Break and Start Engine button- pops up on screen), and because the car is off and still in Drive, the Drive indicator next to gear shift blinks. Sometimes I can just put the car in park, restart car, and then it works till the next red light. And sometimes it takes a few minutes till I can put the car in Park, or till I can restart.

That's definitely a bit different than the "normal" loss of power issues that people have. That sounds more like an intermittent electrical connection causing the system to essentially reboot. Have you by chance checked your battery terminals just to see if they're tight?

Some dealers will simply plug it into the computer, see if it spits out a code, and call it a day. That sounds like what's going on here.

On the grand cherokee, the 12v battery is under the spare tire in the truck, so it can be a little more effort to get to to check yourself. You can ask the dealer to check it, but if they're just the type to plug in the computer and scan, they're not likely to do it for you, just because you asked.

Open a claim with Jeep customer cares!!! I leased a brand new 2024 Sahara 4xe in January, engine stalled twice in first 4 days while I was stopped in traffic. Dash flashed "service transmission". And it told me to press the brake put it in park. Brought it straight to the dealer after the second stall, they still have it and I've been in a loaner. It needs a new transmission. But my dealer told me they had to open a star claim with Jeep because the vehicle was brand new. Contacted jeep customer cares, and they've been good so far.

Hi! Same exact issue with our GC4xe 2023. Stopped 3 times randomly and once on the the highway as i was slowing down transferring to an exit. Was very scary. Dealer initially couldnt identify the problem and they told me they did some computer updates and it should be fine. When i went to pick it up 2 days the car was dead in the dealer parking lot. Could not start it. Car has been at the dealer for almost 4 weeks now. Dealer tells me they dont know what to do and are waiting on instructions from Chrysler. So discouraging. Had the car for 6 months…. Thank god they gave us a loaner (Wagoneer) but still its not cool. What if they dont fix it correctly? i just want another car at this point, its too scary to have a car stop at any moment. Let me know if you have any developments on your end! thanks

Just had new running boards installed on my 2023 4 door Wrangler 4xe today and as I was driving home from the dealership my jeep went from electric mode to gas and the RPMs went up to 7 then it jerked about three times before finally stalling. I was able to get it to a Starbucks parking lot after turning it off then restarting it but once the tow truck arrived it wouldn’t even shift out of park. The tow truck driver noticed a lot of fluid on the ground under it and once we got it back to the dealership they told me it was the transmission fluid and that all of the computer errors show transmission. The transmission light did come on finally once I got it safely off the road but it was very disturbing as I realized that if this happened while commuting to work on one of Houston’s most dangerous freeways I would have literally been a sitting duck. Dealership put me in a rental until next Thursday and vowed to get the other recall for the defoggers fixed as well. We will see. After reading all of these similar posts I think I just want them to take it back and put me in a full gas Wrangler again perhaps I should forget about a hybrid for now.

They both use the same basic transmission from zf. The issue you're describing sounds like something that had nothing to do with yours being a hybrid.

I called the dealer and was told " it happens".
You misheard them. What they actually said was "go to a new dealer, we have no idea what we are doing".

This happened to me once after I owned my 2023 4xe Wrangler. Maybe the difference is that I was driving on the freeway when it happened. It was a risk to drive so I stopped driving it until I had an answer. I did not and never did receive a recall notices but I did read somewhere at the time that it was a known software issue. Got a software upgrade and it hasn’t happened again. That was about 10 months ago.

Hi all,
Today was so scary. Driving my beauty 2024 4XE to work today. Stopped at a red light on a 90km/hr hwy and she went dead. Drive indicator light on dash started flashing (“D”) and no go. Put her into park (while traffic light was still red) “Service Transmission” came up in the dash, I immediately put hazard lights on. Tried to put her back into Drive, no go; it was locked into park. Light went green… I couldn’t put the vehicle into neutral to try and coast off the highway!
The traffic light went from green to red 3 times while I was blocking the slow lane (so embarrassing). Remembered that it’s a computer and did a hard shut down (I.e. turn the vehicle completely off and wait 30 seconds). Turned her back on and was able to drive off without a problem. Vehicle has 2k - that’s all! Had her towed to dealership and am awaiting diagnosis. This was so messed up and I was terrified that I was going to get rammed while sitting like a duck at the light.

While this isn't the right forum for that (its geared towards the newer hybrid Jeeps) the symptoms sound to me like a crank shaft position sensor- when they start to go bad they experience intermittent thermal failure; the 10 minutes of cooling down is all it needs to get back in spec. Its been an issue on Jeeps since the 4.0 in the late 80's but shops never seem to diagnose it correctly.

My 2024 Grand Cherokee Altitude has been serviced 3 times for the stalling issue and has continued to get worse. Currently being towed and we’re considering it a lemon. My question is whether this has continued to be an issue with the 2025 models? I really liked it…other than it stalling while driving with my children in the car! But do I want a 2025? Not even sure what my options are at this point and am trying to research that now.

I have a 2025 GCxe and it has done this to me once, less than 3,000 miles on it. It was horrifying, I also had my kids in the car. It spent 3 weeks in the shop just for them to tell me that “nothing is wrong with the car but we replaced the battery just in case” I personally would not recommend getting a 2025 model. It seems like Jeep knows there is an issue but won’t take accountability for it. I will be claiming it as a lemon if it happens again.
