too bad its crap to drive, hunting for gears non stop... In my book that is a big fault, and the fact they did not bother to corect it in what now / 12 years, most of this stuff is software...
It’s especially bad in the Tacoma. Similarly underpowered but with 6 gears to fumble through. I’d go manual with the Tacoma

I think it would depend on your driving style. if you're doing a lot of short drives the 4xe will last longer than any gas equivalent because you have so much less combustion happening all round. you're also going to have less brake exhaust and even possibly transmission work thanks to the electrified portions of the design. so your maintenance costs over 10 years will be somethng like half that of the ice version. that could amount to 3000 dollars or more easily. not only that, ev repair is going to be a lot more commonplace in 10 years, and its actually ice mechanics who will start to be in short supply by then. (almost all manufacturers are going ev only you know) already, for my chevy volt my local non-chevy mechanic is handling that volt, and doing a great job, at alost 40 percent cheaper than when i used to take it to chevy. and he can do whatever it needs done to it, and thats even more of an EV than the jeep. The jeep 4xe battery is on the small side too. so even if you eventually needed a whole new battery (you wont until something like year 15) the cost would be well under 5k for a reconditioned one, and it might even be a better battery than what is in there now. anyways, i just think too much has been made about repairs and longevity in these things, and cars like the chevy volt have proved that these are very inexpensive vehicles to own over the long haul. All that being said, of course you can expect the first 2 or 3 years of ownership to be a little rocky, as this is a new tech for chysler and parts and technicians still are still getting up to speed for the demands of the consumer. mine has been in the shop a bunch of times for electric heater issue, FORM issues. all are resolve now although that was fairly frustrating tbh. but the technicians are starting to finally understand the car and fix it a lot quicker than when i first bought it. Lastly, also consider resale value. if you decide to sell a 6 or 7 year old jeep, you're going to have a lot more buyers for one that can drive as an EV than one that cannot. thats just a simple fact of the matter that more people are going to want some kind of ev moving foward simply because whenever gas prices go to high, you're going to have an amazing demand window to sell the vehicle for top dollar. if you dont do a lot of short drives, and cant plug it in regularly obviously don't bother, just get the ICE one, cause a lot of the benefits above will be completely negated. good luck!

I would like to believe this but I'm not 100% sure I agree. If Jeep comes out with a full electric or 4xe with more range in electric, it will likely divide the market into those who want EV and the "purists" who want an ICE Wrangler, putting our 4xe's in a sort of purgatory. Also, consider battery degradation- if our 20-25 miles of electric are more like 15 in that time frame and the battery replacement cost is significant, we now have Jeeps with limited gas and electric ranges.

I hope I'm wrong and you're right but something to consider.

Hi all, Been strongly considering the Rubicon 4Xe. I do tend to keep my vehicles for a long time. My current 01 Tacoma has 315k miles and still going. My biggest concern with the 4Xe over a gas model Rubicon is ownership after the 8yr/100k mile hybrid component warranty has expired. Can’t really take these things to your local mechanic for many issues. How do you all feel about long term ownership of a 4Xe? Better to stick with a gas model in my case? Thx
I honestly don’t feel too confident at the moment. One reason I leased. Also, the technology has a ways to in terms of how long I can drive on a charge. I figured I would rather pay money to have something under warranty at all times versus paying similar money to keep old outdated vehicle on the road. When replacement cost of these systems goes down and efficiency/reliability improves I would consider owning. Just my 2 cents.

Can confirm that.

I specifically opted for a manual - I also addressed the recalls, btw.

First off... glad everyone was okay.

Secondly,
As a retired D/E I have SO many questions about the firefighting tactics in the photos.
It looks like the engine wasn't actually "In-Service" yet and was just driving by?

Stay with the gas model. We have already had several severe issues on our 4xe after only 1,500 miles and it’s all hybrid related. The shop has had our Jeep longer than we have by 5 months. They just don’t have the mechanical history or decent engineering yet to make the 4xe worth while. Look up mechanic reviews of the new 4xe on you tube. All of them are shocked that Jeep (Stelantis) would make these 4xe models so sloppy and prone to several issues resulting in mechanical failure and not reliable performance. I would be surprised if anyone could reach 100k miles on their 4xe.

It was a 2018 - my JK was an automatic and I was missing the manual from my YJ so, when the refresh for 2018 came, I happily custom ordered a 2018 JL Rubicon -my first ever Rubicon - which I'd always wanted.

Nobody was hurt bc when the clutch exploded on the highway, we coasted to a stop. We all saw the smoke but I saw the flames coming out from side of hood so I screamed for everyone to get out.

We also had an on-board extinguisher that I used to get the flames down just a bit so we could grab wallets and meds, etc.

Scary as shit. Would not recommend.

Anyway, I ordered a 4xe and, as far as I know, no reports of those exploding. Not that Jeep would address them if they did.
So far Jeep hasn’t released any information on the 4xe’s exploding, like you said not that they ever would, but when we got the “red turtle of death” warning on our dash and the entire car just shut off randomly in the middle of the highway, we were told it was because the system had to shut off the engine and batteries to to a high voltage issue. They wanted me to feel better about the fact that the “red turtle” saved us from blowing up. Mind you we had o ly owned the Jeep for 3 weeks and had only out 1,500 miles on it when this happened.

Wow!! That’s incredible… Hope no one was hurt? What year was your Jeep? The recall was from 2018-2021. Sounds like it was several recalls on the manual for the same issue? The most recent being a “software update”. Software updates for a hardware issue 🤦🏻‍♂️ I have a 2017 Chevy Bolt. GM tried to “fix” the battery fire issue with a “software update”. Just dug themselves a deeper hole by trying to take the cheap way out.

Have there been any issues with the 22/23 manual transmissions? I really want to give Jeep a try but the more I read the more I feel like I should stay with Toyota. 🫢😬
Just randomly saw this recall notice:

I would look for a different vehicle. I’ve had my Wrangler 4xe since April 2022 and it’s been in the shop since October. They said that it’s leaking coolant in to cylinder 1 causing it to over heat or blow cold air through the heater. I live in Minnesota so heat is very important. They are replacing the engine under warranty but they would not offer replacing the vehicle. I’ve been working with Jeep for a resolution but continue to get excuses. The engine is finally at the dealerships after excuse after excuse. I understand that all manufacturers have issues but this is the first and likely the last Jeep I would buy! Good luck.

check your state's lemon laws. you should be able to just file a lemon law claim on your own and then a judge will tell them what they have to do for you. you generally have 2 years to file this claim if your state does in fact have such a law on the books.

Tried filing lemon law and lawyer stated that there isn’t enough to win the case. I’m at the mercy of working with Jeep to get it fixed.

I try not to - true pros don't spend time "reviewing" and creating click-bait on YT. Some of them I just plain laugh at.
There's so very little decent truth on YT any more, I try to avoid it unless I want a chuckle, or to get angry and yell at the computer screen. Real techs are doing how-to's, not reviewing and trashing things.
Reminds me of the guy who supposedly knows cars saying the Gladiator is doomed and was a massive failure from the start - his evidence is sales numbers and yet - the percentages pretty much match what's been going on in the whole industry in the last 2 years and frankly, the JT has met or beat goals. Yet he knows his stuff, sure.....
YT is a wasteland of people looking for fame, quick money via clicks, attention, likes and so on. Hard to believe much of what's out there automotive-wise.

I founnd Nick O'Leary's YT channel extremely helpful when I was wanting to learn about the various features of my C43. Throttle House provides decent reviews, I think. Scotty Kilmer wins the award for the most annoying and moronic YT channel.
